Awards Seeking Excellence in Business Across the Region
The 2018 Excellence in Business Training Awards is now opening for entries.
Now in its eleventh year, the awards are hosted by CCB part of The Cornwall College Group and attract hundreds of applications from large and small companies from all sectors across the South West.
“The awards are always a fantastic celebration of local business success,” said Sally Foard, Director of CCB.
“They have provided well deserved recognition for companies who have invested in training and enjoyed measurable benefits. Planning is already well underway for the awards ceremony in January and the judges are ready and waiting for the applications to start coming in!”
The awards are sponsored and supported by local businesses and organisations across the region including headline sponsors Pirate FM, Sapience HR, Business Cornwall, Cornwall Care, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Skills Hub, Unlocking Potential, Cornwall Chamber of Commerce and Devon Chamber of Commerce.
Mark Peters from Pirate FM said the station has sponsored these awards “because of our passion to broadcast the progress that is being made in the region”.
“We can never lose sight of the difference that individuals make to a business, a community and themselves,” he continued.
“These awards give a flavour of the achievements made each day, in this great county and beyond.”
Winners from last year include; The Park Cornwall, Truro Tractors, George Autie – Fugro Geo-Services Ltd, Eden Project, Wesley Ashwell from The Globe Restaurant with Room in Fowey, Pendennis Shipyard Ltd, Blue Flame (Cornwall) Ltd, Karen Oldham-Waring – Sunflower Training & Consultancy and Chloe George – Trevalsa Court Hotel. Plus a special 10th Anniversary Award went to Fit N Fun Kids for their ongoing commitment and dedication to training over the last ten years.
“Great staff are what makes a great business and well trained, motivated staff even more so. The right staff, with all their buttons pressed to ‘on’ bring that magic ingredient to a business and training and nurturing is generally the ‘on’ switch.” Commented Sue Hook from Sapience HR, one of this year’s sponsors.
Sue continues: “We encourage all employers to invest in identified and well directed training which brings many benefits and increases your company’s chance of success and that’s why we want to support and encourage the recognition of those businesses who understand and apply training in their company so that both their staff and their business prospers and we congratulate them all.”
Over the last decade CCB has seen thousands of businesses; individuals and apprentices apply to the awards all of which deserve recognition in their own right. Those that are shortlisted and attend the awards evening all have they own personal training story to tell and all deserve to be winners.
Sally Foard added: “Continuously developing the skills of a business is fundamental to its success to meet some of the employers and staff from the South West who are real proof of this is humbling and always a delight.”
Raoul Humphreys, CEO of The Cornwall College Group, said: “In today’s challenging economic climate it’s good to know businesses are still prioritising training as they plan their budgets. Many are recognising that training has a positive financial impact as well as improving staff morale and retention. I would encourage any business not to be shy and to take the plunge and apply!”
Any business in the region can enter the 2018 awards by sharing how they have used staff training to improve their profitability, staff morale, retention, performance and to gain competitive advantage.
