College delivers professional training nationally

A leading local College has delivered professional development training in the Lake District after hotel managers were staggered by the quality of training delivered at a Cornish-based sister company.

Steve Jones, Management Trainer at Truro and Penwith College, delivered several equality and diversity sessions at Watergate Bay Hotel in Newquay last year and the managers insisted that the same training be delivered to management and other staff at Another Place, their sister hotel in the Lake District.

The training session was delivered earlier this year to 30 delegates and focused on elements of the Equality Act 2010, including: increasing awareness of discrimination, the impact of equality and diversity across organisational policy and potential consequences of breaches to equality legislation. Delegates were able to enjoy lots of discussions and debates of the importance of effective management of equality, diversity and inclusivity policy.

Lynsey Thornthwaite, Marketing and Communications Manager at Another Place, took part in the training session and commented: “Steve was a patient, non-judgemental trainer who created a space where everyone felt comfortable voicing their opinions. He helped everyone better understand how their behaviour could impact on our guests and colleagues. It was a great refresh for me and the team.”

Caroline Tyson, Front Desk Manager at Another Place, also attended and added: “It was a very informative course. Steve used real life sceneries and examples to demonstrate how easily situations can escalate.”
