College receives Quality Mark for Excellence

Truro and Penwith College has been recognised for its excellent delivery of teaching and learning to the health sector by Skills for Health.

The Quality Mark is awarded by the National Skills Academy for Health. Skills for Health with the Sector Skills Council for the whole UK health sector is licensed by Government to improve healthcare, raise quality and improve productivity and financial performance.

Truro and Penwith College works in Partnership with the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to deliver training to meet the Economic Development Strategy for Cornwall health and care priorities.  The College also works with other providers, schools, employers and with local community groups to extend and enhance provision for learners, including those who are under-represented in learning or at risk of disengagement. The College has developed its provision to engage in this area embracing new initiatives and working with other health professionals to ensure that the learners are given the best possible experience.

The College was congratulated on being responsive to the evolving needs of Cornish students and employers and being particularly effective at ensuring that a high number of learners remain in education post 16 and committed to the inclusion of groups underrepresented in education, including those with special educational needs. The resources available to the students are of a high quality and the range of equipment for practical demonstrations is expanding.

The Quality Mark Assessment Report stated that “The college training team delivers teaching and learning to a high standard and are passionate about what they do and all team members strive to ensure that the learner experience is of good quality, fit for purpose and enjoyable. They work with a professional approach and engage with their students on a variety of levels.”

“The College is delighted to receive this endorsement of our work. We have developed a portfolio of new training programmes to deliver essential skills across Health and Care settings in Cornwall. The latest programmes that are being launched include Awards in Awareness of Dementia, Technology in Care, and Healthier Eating and Special Diets in a Care Environment and e-learning programmes. One of the newest courses that the College is offering is the new Care Certificate in the Workplace. The programme is suitable for those new to the Health and Social Care sector who are required to work towards the Care Certificate.”
