Enthusiastic Learners Discover Career Paths

Bringing valuable skills back into Cornish Communities, nearly 80 adult learners have praised a range of free Higher Level Skills Taster Sessions aimed to help expand their careers and ambitions.

Developed as part of the European-funded Widening Participation through Skills Project at Truro and Penwith College, the unique sessions provided learners with an awareness of the Higher Level education options accessible to them.

Subject specific four-hour tasters that ran throughout July introduced attendees to a range of topics including Marketing and PR, HR Management, Cost Control and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Related qualification options were thoroughly discussed along with the progression routes and support available at the TEF Gold-rated College.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy tutor, Kevin Ostapenko-Denton was thrilled with the project’s accomplishment: “The session went brilliantly well, all attendees were very engaged which made for a very lively discussion.”

Enthusiastic attendees left positive feedback for the sessions, demonstrating the outstanding quality of teaching which was highlighted by the recent TEF Gold status awarded to the College.

One attendee said: “Fantastic session, very informative and fun. It was an excellent way to find out about progression courses and what I could expect to learn from them.”

Newly appointed ESF Project Coordinator, Madeline Richardson was delighted with the compliments received by attendees and is pleased with the outcome achieved by the sessions.

Madeline said: “The response to these Taster Sessions has been brilliant and we are delighted that so many people came along to find out more about Higher Level study and what’s on offer here at Truro and Penwith College. Our aim is to help individuals make informed choices for their development. We have more tasters in Teaching and TESOL on 23rd August, and we are organising a further week of Tasters for November which we will be promoting shortly.”

Personalised information, advice and guidance appointments have also been offered to all attendees to discuss and determine the next steps towards their career ambitions and the additional support and funding available.
