Mitie to Offer Apprenticeship Opportunities
One of the UK’s largest employers of Apprentices to offer opportunities in Cornwall
Mitie Healthcare Environmental Plus is one of the largest employers of apprentices in the UK with over 1,000 people currently in training across the business. Mitie Healthcare Environmental Plus delivers facilities services within the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust, who serve a population of approximately 450,000 people from three hospitals in Truro, Penzance and Hayle. With over 480 staff in Cornwall, Mitie Healthcare Environmental Plus has a clear commitment to invest in the development of its current workforce and also provide career opportunities through an Apprenticeship programme both of which will be developed in partnership with Truro and Penwith College.
The new partnership aims to provide high quality industry training to increase skills and develop the workforce to gain efficiencies, ensure quality of service delivery and maximise productivity levels.
Truro and Penwith College was selected on the basis that they demonstrated credible experience in working with clients to deliver successful solutions and access to funding. Training delivery and the ability to provide training at Mitie sites were also important factors in the decision.
Mitie’s Training Manager, Louise Symons, said: “We have a clear commitment to help our staff to meet their full potential and to develop “home grown” talent. Truro and Penwith College has demonstrated that they understand our needs and can deliver the learning and support for individuals both in the workplace and through taught programmes.”
The Apprentice programme will see a new mentoring initiative where existing Mitie staff will support new recruits helping them to get to know the organisation and supporting them in their job roles. The first Mentoring Training Courses are being delivered over the coming months.
The investment in Apprenticeships will see an Autumn recruitment campaign for 20 potential new career opportunities within hospitality, healthcare and facilities services.
Tamsyn Harris, Head of Truro and Penwith College Business, comments: “We are proud to be working in partnership with a national organisation who are investing in developing skills and knowledge to sustain and grow their business whilst at the same time making an impact on the local economy.”
