National Golf Month sees “Driver for a Fiver” at Cornwall’s Budock Vean
The Budock Vean country house hotel is celebrating National Golf Month by offering “driver for a fiver” taster sessions on its hidden gem of a course on the banks of the Helford River.
Budding players or seasoned golfers who haven’t yet discovered the delights and challenges of this 9 hole/18 tee course, designed in 1922 by the great James Braid in the Helford Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, have a treat in store at a knock-down price.
“This is our contribution to National Golf Month and we’d love to think we will entice some new players to the sport” says the Budock Vean’s owner Martin Barlow – himself a keen player.
“If you don’t like golf after playing a round here it’s unlikely you ever will. It’s the chance to try either nine or eighteen holes – with something to suit all abilities – for just £5 and to discover this beautiful part of the world while doing so.”
The Budock Vean is set in its own 65 acres of unspoilt gardens and ancient woodland, with its golf course built on gently undulating, mature parkland with narrow fairways flanked by trees. It was designed by the professional Scottish golfer James Braid around the natural landscape and today lies seamlessly within the hotel’s organically managed grounds which run down through a ravine garden to a private foreshore on the Helford.
“One of the joys of this course is that you can easily tailor your round to the time you have,” says Martin. “If time is short you can still keep up with your sport with a complete 9 holes in a couple of hours. It’s great value for money and England Golf has confirmed that competitions can be run – and handicaps gained – over 9 holes, so that’s something we’ll be introducing alongside our regular 18 hole competitions.”
Anyone wanting to try a Budock Vean “Driver for a Fiver” round needs to book a slot before the end of June on 01326 252102, for more info visit the website here.
For anyone wishing to join the thriving Golf Club afterwards, there is a pro-rata joining fee until the end of March 2016 and the Budock Vean will credit new accounts with £30 to spend in the golf bar and hotel.
