New Multi-Skilled Trades Apprenticeship launched
Learners across Cornwall are getting the opportunity to learn a range of practical skills, including electrical, plumbing, woodwork and tiling thanks to a new apprenticeship.
Aimed at learners who prefer to learn in a practical, hands-on way, students will work on a variety of maintenance tasks needed to maintain a high level of quality in either domestic or commercial premises.
Cornwall College has recently launched a new Level 2 Property Maintenance Operative apprenticeship, and Jon Ninnes, Construction Curriculum Lead at Cornwall College, said it was “perfect for school-leavers who want to become fully-trained, multi-skilled tradespeople”.
“It’s also fantastic for existing workforces who would like to learn additional skills and gain a nationally-recognised qualification,” he continued.
“Following successful completion of the apprenticeship, students may go on to employment maintaining properties for housing associations, healthcare, educational or retail establishments, leisure facilities, hotels, large estates or similar. Job roles may include Maintenance Assistant, Maintenance Engineer, Property Engineer, Caretaker, Multi-Skilled Technician or Premises Manager. Alternatively, students may wish to specialise in a particular trade, and progress onto a Level 3 qualification.”
Kim Pankhurst, Head of Quality Improvement and Assurance at Cornwall Care, added: “I feel the property maintenance programme gives our caretakers the opportunity to update their skills and learn new ones relevant to their role here at Cornwall Care. We are pleased to be working with Cornwall College to deliver this and other apprenticeships to our staff who deserve the best training we can offer”.
