Pendennis Shipyard Wins National Apprenticeship Awards Regional Final
Pendennis Shipyard Ltd, one of Cornwall’s leading marine businesses is celebrating being named ‘South West Large Employer of the Year’.
After successfully getting through the South West regional finals, held at Doubletree Hilton South Cadbury House Hotel in Bristol, Pendennis will now go through to the national final which will take place on 18 January 2018 in London.
The awards, now in its 14th year and run by the National Apprenticeship Service, recognise excellence in three key areas: businesses that grow their own talent with apprenticeships; apprentices who have made a significant contribution to their workplaces and former apprentices or those who champion apprenticeships.
Pendennis HR Director Jill Carr said: “We are delighted to win the National Apprenticeship Service regional award for our apprenticeship scheme. It is great recognition of the hard work that our entire workforce put in to the scheme and of our partnership with Cornwall College.
“Apprenticeships are the building blocks of our company and are a key factor in providing a world-class service to the Pendennis fleet of Superyachts. We are proud to see many apprentice graduates in senior positions within the company inspiring the younger generation of apprentices, and having recently appointed our 230th apprentice we will continue to recruit to our schemes every year”.
Director of Technology at TCCG (The Cornwall College Group), Justin Olosunde, added: “It is fantastic for Pendennis and the College to be recognised in this way, and we look forward to the national final in January. We have worked closely with the shipyard from the outset, to create and deliver a bespoke training programme, enabling apprentices to reach their full potential. Awards like this recognise the hard work and innovation that the College and our employers demonstrate to provide opportunities for young people across the region”.
