Tacos, Training and Trauma
Late last year, Tim Puffer director of In Safe Hands Training, visited central America for a super exciting trip! The purpose of the visit to Mexico’s capital city, Guadalajara, was to fact find and observe their local emergency services.
In Safe Hands ethos is to step outside the norm and true to form we are now offering placement opportunities, which are fully supported for clinical students, in Mexico!
In Safe Hands was one of the first centres in the UK to offer the new progression route to become a Paramedic known as First Response Emergency Care, or FREC as its more affectionately known.
The SME based in Cornwall, has the UK’s first Simulation Centre which has drawn hundreds of learners from around the country to ‘experience’ the new way of learning.
This new offering will support the centre based learning through simulation and offer a completely unique experience in which to gain clinical exposure and qualifying hours.
This fantastic development means that learners can now take the First Response Emergency and Urgent Care Diploma at Level 5 right here in Cornwall! Being the first centre in Cornwall to offer level 3 and 4 it was logical next step to offer level 5 as a progression option and what a way to do it!
Tim said ‘having travelled to Mexico recently and experienced first-hand what students will be doing, I can honestly say there is no other opportunity like it. I spent my time in three different settings which were invaluable and learnt a great deal myself. I wasn’t just there to observe but was thrown into several life threatening emergencies!’ Students will work with Doctors within a very busy Emergency Department, with obstetric staff in Maternity and with the frontline Ambulance crews.
The Level 5 First Response Emergency Care and Urgent Course is open to students that currently hold a Level 4 First Response Emergency Care. The course duration will be 3 weeks at the Indian Queens based simulation centre, before flying out to Mexico for student placements. The first course is planned for April 2018 and with only 6 places per course, qualifying students are strongly advised to book early.
In Safe Hands will be holding a launch event on the 22nd February from 7-9pm.
