The Headland Triumphs At Cornwall Tourism Awards
The Headland Hotel has cemented itself as the premier events venue and spa in Cornwall after an incredibly successful night at the Cornwall Tourism Awards which saw them win gold in two categories.
The awards, which were hosted for the fourth consecutive year at the hotel, celebrated the cream of Cornwall’s tourism sector and were attended by the who’s who of the industry.
The Headland overcame strong competition to triumph in both the ‘Spa and Wellbeing’ and the ‘Venue and Business Tourism’ categories – and became the only hotel in Newquay to take home gold awards.
This year saw a record 172 entries with 6 months of judging and 111 judging visits to businesses in order to painstakingly choose the winners. In its 14th year, the awards saw an increase to 24 categories, reflecting the ever-increasing diversity of the industry, as well as seeing an increase by 18% to 172 entries from across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
The ceremony also saw guest appearances by Rosamund Barteau, daughter of Poldark author Winston Graham, and Cornish-born comedian Rory McGrath.
Darryl Reburn, The Headland’s General Manager says,“I am so proud of the team here at The Headland, not only for achieving gold in both our nominated categories, but also for hosting an incredible event here in the hotel. The recognition from the Cornwall Tourism Awards board is testament to the hard work and effort that the team here at The Headland put in not just on occasions like these awards but seven days a week all year round.”
Lucy Mingo, The Headland Spa’s manager echoed Darryl’s pride following her team’s win saying, “As we approach our second anniversary of The Headland Spa it is incredible to be recognised with a gold award. We have worked tirelessly to perfect the customer’s spa journey and to create a relaxing, rejuvenating experience from the moment someone arrives to the moment they leave. I am incredibly proud of the entire spa team whose skills and dedication have been quite justly rewarded.”
Claire Robinson is the Events Manager at The Headland, and so as well as celebrating the success of the awards ceremony itself, also celebrated winning gold and being recognised as Cornwall’s premier venue, she says, “Here at the Headland we are privileged to be able to host and create events such as the Cornwall Tourism Awards in such an iconic venue. The entire events team understand that everything we host be it an intimate celebration, large wedding or business event is an incredibly important day in the lives of our clients and so we strive continuously to exceed the expectations of every customer. This gold award is truly the icing on the cake of what was an exceptional night for both the hotel and its staff.”
